I believe the ad posts were being done through automation(based on time stamps.) As the automation should not be able to get by the captcha on the account creation I have come to the conclusion that OpenID was being used in the process. I have therefore disabled OpenID for this site, I'm sorry if you were using it! But until I can confirm this OpenID will remain off.
