Circuit Brakers

Does anywone know much about wireing? The other day a circuit braker went in my house, it operates our dishwasher and two outlets. We unplugged everything but the braker switch won't allow itself to be turned back to the on possition.
Any ideas would be great, Im a hammer, nails, and paint kind of person. Electrisity and plumbing are strange and forign concepts to me! Help!
Should have closed this a while ago. Got it working, the breaker wasn't all the way to the off position. Once I pushed it all the way to off it clicked then could be moved back to the on.
